Session 2 coming later in 2026

By Week 2 “Hello, my name is…”

Introduce yourself and ask someone else’s name — in chiShona, not in your head.

By Week 3 “This is my family.”

Talk about your family, your totem, and where you come from.

By Week 5 “What are we eating?”

Navigate everyday life — food, time, stories — without freezing up.

By Week 6 A real conversation.

Hold a 5-minute conversation in your graduation circle, with no teacher in the room.

The curriculum

From mhoro to a real conversation.

Six weeks. Two calls per week. Every lesson builds on the last. No grammar drills. No memorisation tests. Just real chiShona, spoken by real people, in a room small enough to actually practise.

Call 1 · Fridays
60-min live lesson with Tsitsi
New vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar in context. Recorded so you never miss anything.
Call 2 · Weekly
30–45 min conversation circle
Student-led, no teacher. This is where speaking actually clicks.
The foundation. chiShona has sounds English doesn’t — we get those right from day one. You’ll leave this week able to greet someone and be understood.
Pronouns, names, and introductions. You’ll be able to ask who someone is, tell them who you are, and have that land naturally.
Talk about your family and your mutupo (totem) — a deeply Zimbabwean way of connecting. This week hits different for diaspora learners.
Time, daily routines, getting around. The vocabulary that gets you through a day — or a family gathering.
Food is culture. We cover kitchen vocabulary and the language of storytelling — two places chiShona feels most alive.
No teacher. Just you and your cohort, speaking chiShona. This is what we’ve been building towards.
Everything included

Every piece is here because it works.

One price. No upsells. No drip-fed extras.

📅
Two calls a week

A 60-min live lesson with Tsitsi every Friday, plus a 30–45 min student-led conversation circle. That’s 12 sessions across 6 weeks.

🎥
Recordings, kept forever

Every session recorded and yours to keep. Rewatch a lesson, catch something you missed, or revisit week 1 from week 6.

📱
mazwi Premium — lifetime

Tsitsi’s own Shona vocabulary app. Lifetime Premium access included with your enrolment — yours to keep long after the cohort ends.

🌍
Shonaverse Premium

The Speak Shona community. Premium membership gives you access to cohort archives, community discussions, and future resources.

💬
WhatsApp accountability circle

A private group with your cohort. Ask questions between sessions, share wins, practise writing in chiShona — the thing that actually keeps people going.

🎓
All of this for $197

One price. No hidden fees. No subscription after. One payment, one cohort, everything above included. Class is intentionally small.

The honest comparison

$197. Less than half the price of equivalent 1:1 lessons.

A single 1:1 Shona lesson costs $45. Six weeks of weekly lessons alone would run you $270 — and that’s before recordings, community, or the app.

Tsitsi
Your teacher

Tsitsi has taught Shona for 20 years. She wrote the mazwi app.

Tsitsi is a native chiShona speaker, founder of Speak Shona, and the creator of mazwi — the Shona vocabulary app trusted by learners across 30+ countries.

She grew up with the language, spent two decades teaching it, and built Shona Jumpstart because she knows what actually works: small groups, live conversation, and enough space to make mistakes without an audience of strangers.

Questions, answered.

Yes. We start from the very beginning — sounds, rhythm, first words. Week 1 is designed for someone who has never said a single word of chiShona. Complete beginners are welcome, and so are heritage learners who’ve been meaning to formalise what they already know.
Every lesson is recorded and yours to keep. If you miss a Friday call, you can watch it back before the next session. The WhatsApp group also helps you stay in the loop between weeks.
Both. The cohort works well for complete beginners and for people who grew up around chiShona but never quite spoke it. The small group size means Tsitsi can adapt to where each learner actually is.
It’s a 30–45 min video call, run by the students — no teacher. You use the vocabulary and phrases from that week’s lesson to have a real conversation with your cohort. It sounds more intimidating than it is. By week 2, most people are surprised by how much they can say.
You keep your recordings, your mazwi Premium access, and your Shonaverse Premium membership. The WhatsApp group stays active as long as your cohort wants it to. And when Session 2 opens, waitlist members hear first.
